CollectionSpace strives to fully integrate museums' mission-critical collections management systems into the Internet world. Created in accordance with (but not limited by) the SPECTRUM documentation standard, the software is designed to serve museums of varying types and sizes while encouraging the use of field-wide and domain-specific standards. The unique guiding philosophy of CollectionSpace goes well beyond SPECTRUM and other museum data standards to embrace community-based software development that encourages sharing and reuse, and supports customization, extensibility, and interoperability.

Current Release

Release 1.8 is focused on seven workflow categories defined by the Spectrum standard for collections documentation: Object entry, Acquisition, Location and movement control, Cataloging, Loans in, Loans out, and Object Exit. Complementary functionality and features such as media handling, hierarchical vocabularies, the storage location authority, delete, import, export, groups, and important bug fixes have also been developed. This release will give users a strong sense of how CollectionSpace is unique and where new functionality will be implemented.
