Welcome to the December issue of the CollectionSpace Newsletter. We want to wish everyone a safe, healthy, and happy holiday season and we cannot wait to see what 2022 has in store! Please read on to see what we have been up to this past month.
Welcome to New Implementers
The University of Michigan Art, Architecture & Engineering Library – We welcome them as members of the Material Order Consortium. Being a member of the Material Order Consortium gives them “the power of many” to hold, catalogue and display their design materials collections. To read more about the benefits check out the Material Order website here.
Material Order Open House
On November 18, 2021, we hosted a virtual open house with some of our colleagues from the Material Order Consortium. We were joined by Hannah Bennett from Columbia University, Margot McIlwain Nishimura from the Rhode Island School of Design, Ann Baird Whiteside from the Harvard Graduate School of Design and Tony White from OCAD University who were all there to showcase their contributions to Material Order and show what the power of Consortia has done for them.
If you missed the Open House, but wanted to see the discussion, you can watch the recorded version on our Vimeo page here: https://vimeo.com/648690538.
CSV Importer Tool – As presented in our V7 Open House, we recently launched a CSV Importer Tool which we have been refining and improving over the last several months but are finally excited to share with you now! This tool allows you to batch import data into your CollectionSpace instance from a CSV file, saving you time and allowing you to create new records or roundtrip data for cleanup.

In the works as we move into the new year, we are focusing on creating new extensions for cataloging Born-Digital and Time-Based objects and works. Get a preview and check out what’s in the works here: https://collectionspace.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/COL/pages/2640281601/Time-Based+Media+Requirements
In January, we want to invite you to join us for a Rights Management Community Input Session where we will look at improvements to rights and copyrights management in CSpace. We will be discussing the current schema and sharing wireframes, as well as opening the floor up to gather input from you as implementers. Stay tuned for your invitation!
